Jack’s Cafe: The Home of the Best. Brownie. Ever
I wish I could say I was exaggerating, but I am 100% certain that Jack’s Cafe here in Cusco is home to the best brownie I have ever enjoyed.
(P.s. I know, I know, I’ve been lax with the postings. I gotta get better, especially with restaurant and food reviews. As of Monday I’ll be in an apartment with internet which means I can blog more easily. BE PREPARED.)
After weeks of hearing friends rave about the wonders of Jack’s, from its pancakes to its scrambled eggs and, obviously, its brownies, I decided I had to check it out for myself. As it was, a friend, Maria C was leaving so, along with another Maria, we made plans to meet at Jack’s for breakfast so we could enjoy their pancakes. Man oh man. They were good. Despite my allergy to wheat, I knew I had to try them. And trust me, I will definitely be having them again if only to take pictures to share with you.
But I digress. Back to the brownies. During breakfast, both Maria’s mentioned yet again how amazing the brownies are so I made a promise that I would try one. Later that night, I had the opportunity!
I headed to Jack’s with my friend Maggie after her goodbye dinner (I’m going to miss you, Maggie!) so we could indulge in a brownie and ice cream.
Sorry for the blurriness. I was walking and refused to stop as I headed to my destination.
If you happen to be in Cusco and want to find Jack’s, it is located on Choquechaka at the corner of Cuesta San Blas, and, as their business card says “just past the 12 Angles Stone.” Landmarks are important in Cusco as they are often easier to understand than the street names.
Jack’s is also well-known for it’s breakfast menu – it definitely caters to tourists – and also has a good lunch menu. Some of the descriptions made me laugh…
Who doesn’t want a plate of yummy thing? Or a veggieburger with “lashings” of guacamole?
But we were here for one thing and one thing only. THE BROWNIE. With vanilla ice cream. FYI, this cost about s/8, I think, which means a bit less than CDN$4.
We each got one (no way were we sharing!) and immediately dug in. I should have taken a picture of what the inside looked like but I was a bit distracted by how amazeballs it was. Seriously folks. This brownie was bordering on a molten lava cake but with all the flavour of a brownie. It had a layer of hardened chocolate on top with an almond and, after it was heated up, the brownie melted the ice cream to make for a mouthful of deliciousness.
Needless to say, I didn’t want it to end. But it did. Which means I must go back. Who cares about the allergies? THIS IS WORTH IT!! Do you think they’ll notice if I’m there multiple times a week?
I can only imagine what the combination of pancakes and brownie would be like. Oh. Em. Gee.
So, to friends who are coming to visits, I promise you right now that I am taking you to Jack’s so you can have this experience. Trust me, you won’t regret it.
